I've spent a bit of time on this board in the last couple of days and I rarely see the name Standard Life and Accident.

Are they any kind of significant player in FE?

Their niche is that they do not have graded or modified (2 yr ROP or 1st yr 30% 2nd yr 70%). They have standard and sub-standard. So if you have a risk that is graded with other carriers, you can get full DB first day coverage @ substandard rates.

Its useful if people don't want to wait 2 yrs for full DB. Having said that, they are a decline on a lot of conditions that others may take on graded or modified.

I was with SL&A when the agents carried the actual polices in their briefcase. You filled out the application on the front of the policy, collected the first premium and left the policy with the insured and mailed the app to the home office. . They were a great company in those days. Later American national bought them and things changed. They became not very agent friendly when compared to other companies.

They baited and switched me on a life contract. After I wrote some apps and got around to reconciling my commissions, I found out and cut them loose. Maybe it was a mistake, but I haven't used them for a few years.
