Starting Producer Goals

I have been a Licensed Sales Producer now for four months and love the insurance business. I want to one day be the agent and run my own agency, so I was curious to how I am doing. So far for October I have gotten 12 personal lines policies equaling $6000 in premium. Is this a small amount for someone new to the business or am I at least doing decent? If I were to eventually open my own agency what amount of premium would I need to keep my head a float?
Thanks!

Your new so it's hard to say.

The average monthly premium depending on the area for a producer should be in the ball park of 20k.

Are you selling personal lines or commercial? Are you a producer at a captive agency or independent ?

My pl ap goal in Texas is 30,000 a month. Avg home policy is 1400 yr auto 600 6mo.

Since you asked 6,000 this month, after 4 months is terrible. If you get paid salary you need to pick up slack or you'll get fired for being a negative asset to your agent.

It is a captive agency and just personal lines.

Are you being given leads? If so, what type of leads? Do you have free reign to cross sell the existing book? Also...take Todd02's numbers with a grain of salt. If you're totally on your own with no leads it could be worse. But you need to pick that number up. Do you come from a sales background? Are you getting training? If you're not up at 10k/month within 8-12 months you'll need to reevaluate your efforts and or career choice.
