I don't use SugarCRM for my insurance biz, but my wife uses it for her consulting practice so we keep up with the news on it product. She is 'active' in the Sugar chat forums.
I did a search and have seen mention of SugarCRM here so I guess some people use it.
The free Community Edition of SugarCRM is going "end of life" sometime in 2015 and many people don't think it will be replaced.
There is a 'fork' (i.e. a copy... all legal) of it from a company that is well-known in the SugarCRM community. Their system is called SuiteCRM. (Kind of a play on words... sugar=sweet=suite!) There is an upgrade path from the 6.5.18 version of SugarCRM to SuiteCRM. You can see the website here.
We did the change-over and so far have not had any problems.
