So uhh, what type of suits should I get? how much should i spend on one? Will my manager judge me on the cost of my suit? I got my first one today, reg price $895 on sale for $275. good deal? help a suit newby out

I dress down these days.. I no longer wear a suit.. It is a sport coat and tie.. Went out last week with just a button down shirt and no tie.. Just didn't feel right.. (think I should have put pants on?) :goofy:

Depends on what you're selling. I usually only wore a suite for meetings at the office (when I was a carrier rep) or for group presentations. Rarely would I dress that way on an in home presentation.

I wouldn't worry too much about how much I am paying for suits at this juncture. Sounds like you got a good deal on the one that your purchased. When I buy suits I like to pick up a Hart Schaffner Marx for half price at a place like Dillards. They run annual sales. Some of the JCP stuff looks o.k.

I couldn't tell you the last time I wore a suit to see a client. You really just need to be neat and clean. This would of course not apply if you are working with high end clients or captive brokerages. One thing i've learned in this business is NEVER out dress your clients. Besides, who really wants to see the insurance man. Dan

-Stay away from black
-Find a 3 piece if possible this way you can rock a vest and not have to wear the jacket (just my opinion...what I like) (if you are chubby then forget the vest all together)
-If you are skinny to thin don't buy pleated pants get flat fronts.
-Navy blue is a safe color and versatile.
-Never pay full price (Dillards is where I go)
-2 button is is very safe and conservative. (avoid double breasted and 3 button suits)
-Second suit should be in the grays (light gray/dark gray)
-Make sure you have it fitted. Suits that aren't properly altered look terrible.
