Suits

-Stay away from black
-Find a 3 piece if possible this way you can rock a vest and not have to wear the jacket (just my opinion...what I like) (if you are chubby then forget the vest all together)
-If you are skinny to thin don't buy pleated pants get flat fronts.
-Navy blue is a safe color and versatile.
-Never pay full price (Dillards is where I go)
-2 button is is very safe and conservative. (avoid double breasted and 3 button suits)
-Second suit should be in the grays (light gray/dark gray)
-Make sure you have it fitted. Suits that aren't properly altered look terrible.

OB1, has given you good advice. First suit should be Navy and in the second I would go for dark gray.

I'm pretty sure NYL requires you to own a suit. Are you saying that has changed?

NYL is very much high end suit and tie environment. I don't know if sports coats even fly. Definitely no polos.

I used to drive my sales manager crazy at the weekly sales meetings. A suit, a mickey mouse tie and lizard boots.

Joseph A Banks is where I go, good stuff at Dillards too. Whenever the sales are on.

Best of luck,
Jim

no, I was talking about the insurance sales environment as a whole....not just one company. The debit guys around here used to be required to wear a tie, that changed lately. For instance. But I know NYL is much more professional than the avg. debit guy!! hee hee

Haha classic picture man. Kinda suprised at the responses. Most of you don't wear suits? I bought it cause like you said NYL requires that I wear them to the office. But you think its a good idea to not wear them to customers houses unless they are high-end clients? What should i go in then, regular clothes or like casual business stuff.

Oh how I wish I had figured this out long before I actually did.

Buy suits, don't listen to everyone else, they don't work for NYL.

I agree.. If you are going to work for them, do it their way.. They will teach you to be successful in their system but you have to listen to them and then go out and put it into action.
