I wear a pair of shorts, deck shoes, and a Hawaiian shirt to most of my meetings, but then again...most of those meetings are on islands. SO, the moral of the story, just dress appropriately for your audience.

That being said, if I'm giving a presentation to a group or something, I'll wear a tie and nice collared button-up shirt.

FYI, you can get suits at Macy's for 50 bucks a piece.
