Well, it's working.
Just got off the phone with an "agent" selling Medicare Advantage Plans for the second year. All she did was complain about how much she's going to have to work, and for less than she made last year.
Phrases she used:
Oh, Lord, they can't be workin' me just as hard for less money!
All these new regulations, makin' my head spin.
When I explained to her that the reason she won't be making New Sales commissions off someone who is just switching from one MA plan to another, she just gave me
I told her, "You're not re-educating them, you're just moving them from one company to another. Why would you expect to be compensated as a new sale for that?"
Her response:
It is a new sale, with the new company!
Then we got to the Scope of Appointment form. Wait 'til you hear this!
I told her she could send someone a Scope of Appointment form, have them fill it out, sign it and date it, then call her back to set the appointment, hand it to her, then she can be on her merry way of presenting MA's.
This was, of course, after I told her to send it to someone, once they made the initial contact, and have them fax it to her, or e-mail it to her. To that, she condescendingly told me that, "ain't no old folks know how to operate a fax, or use e-mail."
Then she tells me that she bought some Med Supp leads, and how can she use them to sell MA's. I said, "Well, you can call them, and inform them that Medicare Supplements have recently made changes to their offerings, and can you come by and discuss it." If they bring up MA's, you can tell them that, by law, you can't discuss that until you have their permission first (see Scope of Appointment earlier).
To wit, she replies, "so, if I talk about MA's, and they were Med Supp leads, I don't have to follow the 48 hour rule, do I?"
Uh, yeah.
She then asks me to put all this down in writing for her. I tell her to visit Medicare.gov - The Official U.S. Government Site for People with Medicare or Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and do her own research.
Naa, she's too busy.
Final result: she's going to keep selling FE (surprised!), and maybe go back into doing hair from her home. This Medicare stuff just ain't payin' her enough.
Thank you, CMS. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
