Treatment or Maintenance?

I got a lady who wants to pay using her s.s. debit card. So I was gonna use 5 Star. She takes meds for depression and she's on insulin.

The underwriting comments say that drugs used for maintenance for health questions diagnosed over 36 months ago do not count as treatment.

So, would she be able to answer #5d no? The question about treatment for depression?

The one place where 5 Star is out of line with other companies is on the depression issue.

That looks like it would be graded. Might want to run it by Newby. But I think he is out of the country right now.

Yeah he is. I asked him initially when I was getting contracted. But when I read the agent guide I thought it would be ok if she was diagnosed over 36 months ago.

The agent guid specifically states that routine checkups don't count as treatment for health questions and scripts prescribed over 36 months out wouldn't count.

Seems like it wouldn't count against her to me. Guess I could call 5 star on Monday and see.

I have a policy with 5Star standard, that would have been Graded with Settlers. This is because I had stents put in 3 years ago and I am on Plavix because of that.
FYI

They are good on that. It's depression stuff that 5 Star is screwy about. Anti depression meds that other FE companies couldn't care less about are a red flag to them.

For the op, I just got an email from Newby so he is checking that. Send him an email about it.

Thanks JD, I would like to see more about how the various carriers look at health conditions. Your post are always helpful.
Thanks
Dan

Newby said as long as she can honestly answer the question no based off the 36 month time frame then it should be all good.

I think this is an important question on how to answer the health questions for all carriers. What is the difference between treatment and maintenance? Im sure every company is different. But if this is the case with 5 star, as it seems to be, then the depression meds are not going to be as big of an issue as some have previously thought. Just a noobie's opinion though...
