UCT Dental, Vision & Hearing Plan

I was on UCT's website the other day and I noticed they've come out with a trifold brochure on their dental, vision and hearing plan. It's pretty nice. I've ordered some. The thing that I like about the brochure is it shows the clients they'll have immediate coveage on alot of the services. One that suprised me is hearing aids. They will cover them immediatly at 60% if the client has never had a hearing aid and needs one. I called the home office to make sure that was correct and they said it was. If someone already has a hearing aid than it won't be covered for 12 months.

Does this make UCT plan best than Medico plan? Medico you have to wait 1 year for hearing aid.

I use to sell medco dental, UCT seems high in price. I have a aettna dental discount not only is it way cheaper but the repricing is phenomenal!

Selling Dental Plans just don't make sense to me unless the client insist on having a regular dental plan.

I've got a contract with them through Frank (RIP). Haven't sold any quite yet, but have a few people looking it over and interested. The issue with all of those plans are that they aren't that great from anyone. Most seniors just would rather pay out of pocket and be done with it. As far as hearing aids go, don't they cost like 5 grand? I've been told by a couple of people they do. And since the highest max reimbursement is 2K through UCT, some of the people I've talked to said they weren't interested. Same with major dental work, they just don't think UCT paying a max 2K toward major work is worth the price each month.

But, for people who really, really want insurance, it's not a bad deal. It's certainly better than nothing. I like that it covers all three services.

I need to order some of those brochures though, they only send you one with your initial packet and they are perfect to leave with customers, except I can't! I've been leaving them with actual applications, because they explain the benefits and what is covered and not covered in the back of the application.

and, the med supps aren't terribly competitive price wise here. Not sure what you mean by low ball. As long as they pay, how can it be worse than any other company?

Seems like Ameriplan did something similar. I have no idea if they are still around, but I haven't had one of their reps call in ages about signing me up to sell their garbage.

No, membership in UCT and owning a policy are two different things. To own or market the plan - you must be a member. To get a claim paid - you must own the plan.

Membership is $18 a year.

I understand but to me it is the same. I'm glad that all of my carriers do not make me become a member of their club or purchase a policy in order to market their goods. But, on the other hand, if you believe enough in something to sell it I guess you should own it as well.

I am contracted through RitterIM to sell both UCT and Medico. Yes, UCT has PRE-EXISTING conditions on coverage of eyewear and hearing aids (among others), and Medico's new plan changed Medico's policy so that pre-existing no longer applies, it is just a straight waiting period. Like the OP notes, UCT covers eyewear and hearing aids day one, sans pre-existing conditions. That doesn't necessarily mean UCT is better. Medico rates are lower, among other differences. (Such as no waiting period for dental cleanings (two instead of one), etc.)

As to comments about agent required membership, keep in mind UCT is a fraternal org, not a mutual insurance company like Medico. If you contract through RitterIM, they will reimburse you on that first year expense with the first sale.

You will note that both UCT and Medico DVH policies are supplemental (limited benefits) plans and as such do not co-ordinate benefits. (Think AFLAC) This means one can have a UCT policy IN ADDITION TO group insurance dental, for example. As a matter of fact, I do.... and the coverage (MetLife) which I have had for many years is about twice the cost of UCT. Once I satisfy my waiting periods (I enrolled just a couple of months ago) I will drop my group insurance. In the meantime, I still have coverage through my group insurance for crowns, etc. I will have crown replacement in a couple of months, and I will get benefits from both policies. Also, I need new glasses and when my waiting period is up, I will get them. This is one of the good things about a multi-coverage plan. You just have to watch your annual cap...

Hearing aids can be expensive. Mine cost about $2300. Not everyone will want top of the line models. Some are as little as $600 or so. If the quality of life and the financial status of the client warrant it, and they qualify medically, the cost of hearing aids can be ameliorated with a DVH plan. The older one gets, the more likely they will qualify. Medico DVH now goes to age 89 for enrollment.

People have to get out of the mindset that they can get insurance to cover every dollar of expenses. Insurance is meant primarily to protect against financial catastrophy, secondarily to ameliorate those expenses.
