I received a letter today from UHC terminating my agents agreement with them for Medicare plans. The reason they gave Ovations/ United Request. Maybe they are Pi$$ed off about the number of plans I replaced for 2009.

They were MA plans that were better coverage for my clients. I worked my a$$ of for 6 wks and a didn't make a dimes profit from it.

I'm not criticizing you because I don't know the facts, so please don't take my questions as such. I just like to learn as much as possible about any venture that I begin.

As a novice to the senior market I don't know much, but I thought that renewals continued for 6-7 years. Why would you replace them if they were still paying you? Am I missing something?

A good agent will replace a plan if another plan provides better benefits. Those that let them sit for 6 years irrespective of value are idiots and are harming their clients.

I make a career of replacing those products. Fortunately for me, most agents are idiots.

UHC terminated a lot of agents, but it was really the FMO they terminated. I got the same letter, changed my FMO and after about 3 months, I'm back in business.
So, make sure it wasn't termination connected to your FMO.
Did you call UHC?

Thank you Rick, for calling us Idiots.
In Florida, UHC is the cheapest med sup there is so if you write what is best for the customer there is no need to re-write.

What do you call someone who can't read a thread? The OP stated it was MA plans that he replaced, not Med Supps. And he said he replaced the plans because the new plans had better coverage.

In case you missed it, and you obviously did:

I stand by my earlier post.

Rick

excuse me King Rick, you really can be a dick sometimes,
I neglected to type in that UHC Med sups AND MA'S are the best bang for the buck!!
Is that better?
You really are good at slamming people, must be nice to be so damn perfect all the time.

GREAT JOB PENNY....CALL IT LIKE U SEE IT!!!!

Penny:

He already had said he moved people to BETTER MA plans. You missed that statement again. You obviously have been drinking the UHC kool-aid. They are not the best plan for everyone.

Keep believing that one company can be everything to everyone. Agents like you are the reason I earn a good living.

One other thing. I'm not a dick sometimes - I'm a dick everytime an agent makes a stupid post.

Apparently she sees things with blinders on.

Working in the senior market is all about providing excellent service to one's clients. A HUGE part of that service is to make sure, each year, that your client has the very best plan at the most reasonable cost.

Even though Insuranceman said he worked his butt of and didn't make any additional money he did insure that his clients had the best coverage available. If he hadn't done that then some other agent would have. It is so much easier to retain an existing client than it is to go out and find a new one. That is what creates excellent client persistency and persistency is what builds renewals.

I don't sell MA plans but if I did I would have done the same thing. I do, however, sell Med Supps. I am so thankful that, since the benefits can't change, the premiums do. Even though I receive first year commission for each of the first six years that doesn't mean that I am going to keep that client with the original company for six years if the premiums get too high.

Penny, in her enthusiasm to participate in this thread, has gotten way off topic. She brought Med Supps into the discussion and only addressed selling insurance in Florida. I didn't see anything in the original post that specifically addressed the state of Florida or Med Supps. It was pretty obvious to me that he was addressing MA plans.

Although I would have stated it a little differently Rick's observations are accurate. She may be in a market where only one company rules but that is not true where the majority of agents sell insurance.

Bringing Med Supps into an MA discussion can be very confusing to agents who are new to the senior market. Sometimes it is confusing to agents in general.
