So, VT is one step closer to being the first state to implement a single payer system and essentially send all health carriers packing. It's off to the Senate.

And when reading this rather long article it almost seems great, until you read that the only way they've come up with to fund it is by charging businesses more.

Universal health care bill passes, 89-47 | Vtdigger.org

"Scheuerman said under the proposal, self-insured companies would pay double – they would pay insurance premiums and potentially a payroll tax, as suggested by Hsiao’s report. Scheuerman said a number of large, self-insured companies could be affected, and she rattled off a list: GW Plastics, General Electric, General Dynamics, Pizagalli Construction, Plasan, King Arthur Flour, Cabot Creamery, CVPS, among others.

Scheuerman said while the state may not require participation in a single-payer plan, companies would likely be forced to pay into the plan. “There is a lot of uncertainty in this bill, and the angst is palpable for businesses in this state,” Scheuerman said."

Sounds like an excellent idea...

If the idea is to get large businesses that export most of their products to relocate.

...nothing to address to inevitable spike in utilization when everyone gets an insurance card in the mail. Reference Canada where urgent care is fine, but primary care is all but non-existent.

You have to love the irony in a system where health care is free, then come to find you can't use it.

Hey, here in Georgia we just chomping at the bit to get new businesses to locate here - tax incentives, warmer weather, utilities dying to give them discounts on their power. Maybe not as pretty as Vermont, but still we do have some mountains, just not good skiing. But with the money they save they will be able to afford to fly back to Vermont to ski.

We have ice cream.

May not be Ben & Jerry's but Mayfield (made up north in Tennessee) is pretty good too.

How is this all going to shake out where areas of our country (east coast) become progressively (pun intended) commie socialist, and other areas (Texas, Florida, etc.) become increasingly free market? Winter, Somarco, Chumps, HealthAgent : are we going to have two countries eventually because of this health bill driving such a freakin' wedge? No more United States? Commentary please. Its needed.

Florida is moving to a "wild west" model, allowing out of state plans to come in to the state (possibly):

Well......not really. What we're all victims of is the 24/7 media culture. I remember sitting in the back seat while my dad waited 30 minutes to get gas. Did the world end? I remember Iran taking American hostages and holding them for over a year. Has anything really changed since then?

This is life. It's a roller coaster. However, what we see now due to technology and the internet is a complete bombardment of negativity non-stop. Unless you have perspective it appears that everything is literally crashing and burning.
