Why pay $500 for a templated website?

Do you think it makes sound business sense to invest your money into a website that was designed for you, v.s. a mediocre template at best?

Check out Tanisha Ryan

Insurance Website Design, Insurance Websites

She has created websites from scratch for a few agents I know.

P.S... I have never spoken nor corresponded with Tanisha, in case any of you accuse me of "shilling" for her.

For that price you can find someone locally that would do the same thing and maintain it personally for at least a year in most parts of the country. $500 is pretty high.

I agree, but what benefit does a local web designer bring to the table?

Frankly, that would depend overall on their personal ability, but IMO you would at least be able to talk to them in person and explain your needs more fully, and hold them accountable for their work. That's like asking what benefit there is in hiring a local contractor to install a sink in your house or a local artist to design a billboard. You absolutely won't know what is available locally if you don't do any research, and if you buy from internet advertisement you can rest assured you are paying in some part for the ad that you clicked on to hire the person. You possibly generate referral business from the web designer back into your insurance business if you worked the contact properly, and you aren't going to get that from hiring an out of town or out of state internet firm to design your webpage. You put money into your local economy instead of someplace else. You can drive over to the guys shop or house, and ask them to make minor changes in the website, or revamp the site in minor ways whenever you see fit. I'm sure there are other benefits that I am still overlooking, and there is the downside that you might hire a bad person to do the work, but the same downsides exist regardless of local hire or looking on the internets, and you can much more easily meet your local guy in person and hold them accountable to their work.

I could careless about meeting a web designer to produce a website for a single man/woman shop.

I think there are so many web designers out there, that you need to find the ones who have experience in designing insurance websites that convert.

Relying on your local marketplace isn't going to give you the same pool to shop from.

You can still hold someone accountable online, numerous way to do it.

Just my .02

Why did you ask what the benefits were, if your only reason was to bash local businesses? I thought you weren't a shill for the online service you linked to? You also didn't really explain how any of the described benefits weren't true, you just said "they aren't" and avoided that altogether. I do agree that you can possibly find a better designer with a larger pool of firms to look at by looking at the national level, but it is not a guarantee that they are going to be better, and you would benefit yourself to look at your local businesses first and at least compare what you can get from each.

I do apologize if I was rude to you in my post.

With that out of the way.....

I don't bash local businesses. I think you projecting your feelings onto opinions.

I live in South Florida, I do not know of one single web designer that specializes in insurance websites for indy agents, in Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach Counties.

If you know of one local webmaster that does quality custom made websites for insurance professionals, please let me know who they are.

I vaugely recall that sometime in the distant past there was a post from some agent who used the services of Gary B. Savelli. Try the search function for details.
