Ok, so what do we do then if we can't input apps ? I've got quite a few I have to put in plus the ones I have to finish. I hope they're not too strict on people trying to sign up AFTER today. I'm sure they're not going to want to turn down people that are genuinely wanting and trying to sign up but haven't even been able to get a start. So how will all that work ? If you know, please chime in. Thanks guys!

Are you asking for a state exchange or federal?

Six month open enrollment started Oct 1st last year. I could care less about all the procrastinators. Tell them to go pound sand.

Absolutely. The site is barely working today and I have absolutely no compassion for people who didn't listen to our holy leaders in DC for the past 6 months.

I called Covered CA to ask if the extension also applied to agents. The person I spoke to said that agents will not be able to process applications after today.
It does not make any sense. The site is not functioning and most of us have tons of applications that still need to be processed.

Actually most of us don't have "tons of applications". Most of us realize this was a cluster of the worst kind and only do an application if it's for friend, client or a referral that brings cake.

Man, you guys are brutal. But I certainly don't blame you. I was referring to Covered California. Sorry I thought I stated that in the beginning. Hmmm.... Here's my thought on this: I'm sure they're going to want as many bodies in this as possible. And since they're soooooo below their goal of enrollment count, I really don't think they're going to scrutinize people that are still trying to apply in the next few weeks. They want enrollments more than the people do. Political careers are on the line and it would be not in their incentive to prevent people from enrolling if it will save them. Just my opinion. Thanks for the responses guys!

MESSAGE FROM COVERED CALIFORNIA
March 31, 2014

Record-setting numbers of people trying to sign up for Covered California™ health insurance plans overwhelmed the system on the final day of open enrollment, prompting the exchange to allow consumers who had trouble enrolling by the deadline to work with a certified delegate to finish their application by April 15.

Because of the staggering demands on the system, Covered California announced the following policy this afternoon:

• Consumers who were unable to create an online account or start their online application because of technical difficulties can contact Covered California Service Center representatives, Covered California Certified Enrollment Counselors, Covered California Certified Insurance Agents, Certified Plan-Based Enrollers and county eligibility workers to explain that they attempted to get through on March 31 and experienced difficulties. Those consumers will have until 11:59 p.m. April 15 to work with the assister to complete their application and choose a plan.

• Consumers who created an online account and completed the first page of the application by 11:59 p.m. March 31, 2014, will be able to complete their application for the open-enrollment period, either by themselves online or with the help of a certified delegate. Consumers must complete the application and select a plan by 11:59 p.m. April 15, 2014. Those enrollees will receive coverage effective May 1.

• Certified Enrollment Counselors, County Eligibility Workers, Certified Insurance Agents and Plan-Based Enrollers who are having a difficult time helping consumers apply through our enrollment website should assist the consumers using a paper application. These service channels can then enter the information into our enrollment website. Completed applications (with plan selections) must be entered by April 15, 2014 (by 11:59 p.m.).

When entering the paper application, please make sure you select the "Open Enrollment" category when responding to the question, "What is the 'life event' causing you to re-apply." Consumers may receive a May 1, 2014 effective date with their selected plan.

Yep, I just saw that in my email too. I knew they weren't going to enforce the deadline. I knew it. I KNEW IT! Wouldn't surprise me if it extended again. Yeehaw guys! Get that business!
