Wegovy/Ozempic/Zepbound for weight loss

Through 2023 I've seen quite a bit of Wegovy being picked up by Medicaid on duals in Michigan for weight loss.

I didn't think Medicare D picked up the cost of these weight loss drugs.

Medicaid has been.

Now, I'm coming across one I have not seen. Zepbound on non-duals. It seems to be the same as Mounjaro (Tirzepatide), but prescribed for weight loss in a case I came across last night.

Does anyone know anything on the weight loss drugs.. I know theyd need to be PAd. The guy I came across last night, had just A and B, and a terrible PDP. Wants a C.

He just had a gain in LIS, so could prob use that SEP but leery on the PA on his Zepbound.

Im leaning on not writing this one just yet. He's also about to gain two dependents, will in about 3/4 months qualify for medicaid as well

They won't be authorized without a current diagnosis of diabetes.
Thats what I was thinkin I hear swirlings of Medicare going to start covering it. Just not sure when

We will find out...he's not my client now. Once he's on Michigan Medicaid though, theyd approve it here. Most likely.

Thanks.

It’s interesting to see how these weight loss drugs like Zepbound and Wegovy are becoming more accessible, especially with Medicaid covering them for dual-eligible folks in Michigan. I didn’t realize that Medicare D didn’t typically cover these meds either. It’s great that Medicaid is stepping in to help. I’ve been reading a lot about Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) lately as well, and it seems to have some real potential for weight loss.

A lot of people crying they are gaining more weight after coming off this drug then they lost

Who knows what these new drugs are doing to ones body

and everyone wants to be the experiment

Ozempic is great for weight loss when you’re taking it but if you make no lifestyle changes and come off that weight will come right back.. people want easy fixes and life just isn’t like that.

Or possibly they could be messing with the mechanics of the body irreversibly
looking to an easy way out?

Oh thats definitely a concern gastroparesis is a known side-effect of this drug.. We will know more in the next 5-10 years but I am expecting something like this:

"did you take ozempic, wegovy, or other GLP-1 Agonists? You may be entitled to compensation"
