Are you still unsure what you actually do?

Rick

I can't believe that I make a living helping people and running my mouth.

I could never keep my mouth shut in school and I can't wait to one day find all those teachers and show them that it does pay to talk all the time.

This was a good presentation. I'm not sure about the "legality" of using the word "investment" in a discussion about life insurance.

Instead of saying "... and that's a pretty good investment" I would say "... and that's a pretty good deal."

I simply tell them that I am an insurance agent and sell insurance. My "official title" is "Your Insurance Agent". That's what my business card says and what is on my letterhead.

I want them to know that immediately just in case they need insurance.

I think that pretty much says it all and covers what you said above, running my mouth. :D

Many years ago, my 4 year old son asked me what my job was. I told him, "I sell insurance". He asked, "What is insurance?". I explained, "I talk to people about ways to protect what they have earned".

I then asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up.

He said, "I don't know, I think I will be a policeman or maybe a fireman, or maybe I just won't do anything, like you.

I used to think similarly, but notice the www.dictionary.com definition of investment:

"the investing of money or capital in order to gain profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation in value."

The term "investment" isn't defined based on the degree of market risk or potential returns. Any attempt to put money into something with the hope of getting more back later seems to qualify as an investment.

If one has a home office it isn't only four year old's that think that.

Thanks for the quicky elevator speech. Simplistic, yes, but laptops aren't usually needed to convey the basic concept. Sure, if somebody wants to play actuary with the numbers, you can go toe to toe. Personally, I'd rather keep it simple when I can.
