Very nice area. Not to far from the mountains or the beach. We are looking at moving to the Charlotte, NC in the next year. We checked out Charleston, SC last year, and although it is a lovely area with great potential for growth, it did not suit our tastes. Unfortunately, we have yet to visit Columbia, but it is on our to-do list.

Charleston is a great place to visit, very historic... Columbia is growing and on a bit of a constuction boom... still about 2 hours from beach or mountains, but the weather is great!

Probably the only reason we have remained in the south for 2 years. Weather is a hard "give up" once you get used to it. But, may still buy a 2nd home in Jersey for when we get bored down here (happens often).

From one fellow Jorseeian to another, what has been your thoughts about the differences between the northeast and southeast, including lifestyle, attitudes, cultural differences, etc.? I've been to Pigeon Forge, TN and fell in love with the place and plan to buy a cabin there or in Boone, NC. Raleigh is last on my list for living, but in the top 5 for investing.

There are two things I picked up on thus far between NC and SC. 1) If they know you are from up north or out of the area, they will treat you like crap. It is apparent that many northerners are moving south and west, and I am curious to see how long it will take some parts of the south to become as fast paced as Jersey, Maryland, lower Connecticut, etc.

I rank an area using a 5 prong approach 1. Nature (mountains, lakes, ocean, etc. 2.Community activities (food, shopping, entertainment,etc.) 3.Real Estate Prices 4) Community attitude (Are things more laid-back and casual or energetic and high-strung) 5. Business growth.
