What to Do in Tiny Claims Situations!

so i happened to be walking past one of my auto clients, and he was arguing with a lady.

apparently the lady opened her door and swung it out and hit his "collectors" car (his standard not market) 3000gt. anyways there is a dime size dent.

so what do you recommend people to do in these situations?

call the cops, file a report, then file a claim?
settle it off the record? but no one is paying like 500 bucks for a small ding.
do nothing and just argue and vent?

what do you actually do? if this happened to you?

Some dings can be repair by paintless dent repair for about $50 a pop. Depends upon the location and size of the ding.

Where I live there are too many people and parking spots are small (along with bad driver), something we have in common with NYC. When my cars get dinged, I just let it kill a piece of my soul and get over it. Dings like that come with the territory. If it's a "collectors car" and it's his baby, then he needs to stop dragging it out where it can be so easily damaged.

I had a neighbor do it where I had her dead to rights. I had pictures of it. I called the cops, they said they couldn't file a report about it. I sent the pictures to her insurance and her insurance company said they were going to deny the claim because I couldn't prove it was her (despite the painfully obvious pictures). She lied and said she didn't park anywhere near my car, the pictures have her right there and the dent matched up perfectly.

so basically people that this happens to, their SOL lol.

i just didnt see the point in arguing, but i see the claim is so low that it will be denied and waste of police time.

and to RBA, i woulda ran away but he saw me and called at me lol.

these door dings and bumper love kisses happen all the time, and i hear people in the street threaten to sue/get money.

Tell them to prove it in small claims court.

Happened to my wife a few months ago. Lets just say I wasn't happy with the ding in the X5 when she got home. The lady that did it said that she didn't and my wife called me. I told her to ask for the woman's insurance info. She did and the lady got in her car and took off.

There is nothing to do but be honest in situations like this. Mr client "It sucks...but your deductible is this much and if the other person is denying that they did it unless you can prove it and get their insurance to pay it isn't going to worth it to file the claim". If they give me an attitude I file the claim for them and let them find out what I was trying to tell them.

I hate the hit and run claims more than this...I am getting more and more of these and it just sucks.

We had a "Brooklyn bumper" for years. Even the nicest cars have nasty marks all over the front and back. Some even push your bumper when parallel parking on purpose to make the space bigger....

yeah i know its cheap to get it repaired, but is there anyway you can "demand" them to pay, most situations i see is, i didnt do it. when did you see me do it.

then after arguments are done, they leave flustered. i saw this happen once before i was a agent, and the guy who got mad made a really fast U turn and crashed into the light pole.
