What will you do different in 2010 in this business?

Will you buy more or less leads?

Did you learn any lessons in 2009 that you won’t do again in 2010?

What are you goals in 2010 in increasing your production?

Will you try doing anything different this year to help with production?

Are any of you changing markets?

Do you think this is going to be a better insurance production year of you?
 
Timely question, since I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Let's all face it, as in industry, 2009 was a brutal year. This is amazing since selling insurance is supposed to be recession proof (we all learned a bit otherwise).

Since my focus is P&C, I'm a bit different than many others here. In early 2009, I focused heavily on homeowners policies. I knew times were tough, but actually expected the market to pick up a lot in the second half of '09. Didn't really happen, putting me way behind my business plan.

I'm continuing a focus on homeowner policies, but shifting my core marketing small business. That's tough as well right now, so it won't be an easy sell, but, the way I see it, small business has to recover for the housing market to recover.

The nice thing is, I have a pretty solid book of business that pays the bills on the renewals. The book is a little smaller at the end of '09 then it was at the end of '08 (not really, I took on another agents book, but if I don't count that).

I am struggling with effective marketing programs for this year. I've virtually given up on internet leads. I don't have the patience to work them as heavily as they need to be worked.

I'm expanding the things that worked best, undertaking a major 12-24 month project and laying the foundation for my entrance into the Senior market. This "foundation" will only be brought to life if the individual health insurance looks like it will be eradicated.

I am currently cold calling small business owners for health and cross selling life. I am getting into LTCi and group. I have a senior site that needs major content so that I will do differently. I will pursue more ltc with COI's and med supps while still holding onto health to get in the door for life...
 
I am going to make a serious effort to build my annuity business around the Roth IRA conversion opportunity in 2010.
