What Would Be Considered Average in Terms of Daily Website Hits

My website went live last month, and I'm still trying to get used to SEO. In terms of content, the company that set up my website put most of the content on the pages, however, I altered most of it. I'm just wondering what kind of success other agents are having with their sites. I'm not getting very many hits, I did just alter some of my search words, and I've seen a few more hits than before, but still not a significant amount.

Any tips on seo would be greatly appreciated.

Re: What Would Be Considered Average in Terms of Daily Website Hi

I own a website that is unrelated to insurance. I built it using google sites. It was/is pretty plain jane. I added content that was relevant to my site. I then emailed a huge bunch of people I knew, friends, family, so on, and asked them to view my beta site, and let me know what they thought. My first month 1 had 250 views. And probably 200 of them were my friends and family doing me a favor, oh, and that wasn't unique views, errr. that was page views.

I have had my site up for a little over one year. I actually ignored it for 11 months. Little did I know it had filtered to the top organically on Google.Bing.Yahoo.AOL.ASK. I now get an average 3300 hits per month. 93% unique 7% returning. I have an average 'eyeball' dwell time of 5:50 seconds. When I promote my site, eyeball time and number of hits goes up. However I did nothing to the site to make it rank #1, it filtered up there on its own. I have payed no SEO wizard. I just did what google says to do, have relevant content to what your pages are.

On the flip side I have built an insurance site in the last month, but has had exactly zero visits to it. I also have not promoted that site at all....let's see what happens over the next year.

What is your site and what company set up your site?

My website is theosmoliainsurancegroup.com and the company that designed it was insurance technology corp.

I think my biggest problem is with seo. I read a post from someone who said you need to have specific keywords. Also would it be better to have keywords for individual page, or the whole site in gerneral?

chumps: if you take a look at the site, let me know what you think, i'm open for suggestions.

Is that Sarah Palin with the headset answering your phone? If so, I think I know why you are getting traffic.

I have considered having Tina Fey on my site.

Well...I'm no expert but here are some ideas:

Get rid of the Google ads
Change your title and description tags
The tabs might need a bit of work. Sometimes they stick.
I can't figure out where you are located or what area you service

Overall...a clean appealing site. You may need a web person to clean up some things and an SEO person to make some recommendations.

Then, you can write some more relevant specific content and you should be fine.

Thanks for the advice...I'm not really sure if i can get rid of the google ads, i may have to do some searching for the answer.

chumps: in terms of content on the homepage, what do you think. Catchy? informative? if you were looking for insurance would you give it a try? It's hard write stuff on the site then go look at it as I was a consumer? The homepage was my biggest concern when I was altering the content, without a good homepage, the rest of the site is useless.

Again, thanks for the advice

While this suggestion has very minimal SEO relevance, might look into a shorter URL. 24 Characters seems to be high and may be difficult to remember from a prospects standpoint.

That is understandable...it is quite lengthy.

When I first decided to start the site, the website design company asked me for a domain name, so I just threw one out there, I really didnt have any idea what I was doing. I'll check with the company and see what I need to do to shorten it. Thanks for the input.
