I was the beneficiary of a piece of pie this afternoon.

I am sure she would agree she is the beneficiary but the question is would she consider it a "gift"?

Sad, but true. My gift was that I left town for 2 days.

The word "beneficiary" appeared in the Articles of Confederation" that preceded our current U.S. Constitution. It then was surreptitiously inserted into the Social Security of 1935. From there it found its way into the act establishing Medicare.
