Which companies offer the best set-up for independent agents?

Best way to find an IMO is to ask other agents who they use or would recommend.

I also made a list of things you should look for in an IMO.

I have a long list of things I would look for in a IMO or FMO.

These are in no certain order.

1. Must have a toll free phone number and answer the phone when I call them.
2. Offers great commissions and great products.
3. Knows their products and can help explain them to me.
4. Has a great website full of tools and things that will help me.
5. HAS GREAT TRAINING.
6. Has great Ideas, Prospecting Systems, can show me where to buy some leads if I want them, and can help me get started.
7. Must be willing to be on my side when the Ins Company does me wrong and take up for me.
8. Offers an Up Front Release if I ask for it, or when I want one.
9. Must answer all of my dumb questions.
10. I personal answer emails 15 hours a day. I had to through that one in.
11. An IMO that keeps their word and won't lie to me.
12. May sure the IMO does not pay you out of their own pocket. That you money comes direct from the INS company.
13. I want an IMO that sells insurance and know what it is like to be out in the field and deal with some of these clients. You will find that some IMO have not sold a policy in years.

Who do you recommend?

I'm not sure when it comes to health fmo's. You need to just ask around and see who others are using and brag about.

I am bias since I am an IMO. I would recommend myself first always on Life Products. But there are other good IMO's besides myself. All of us IMO think we are the best. So it is important for you to do your homework.

I'm willing to help anyone with my ideas/prospecting system, help, even if they never contract with me.

You need to call a few IMO's at least and see which is best for you. I posted up top some of the things that I would look for in an IMO. The good thing about most IMO like myself, if you are not happy with us, then you can go somewhere else. But some IMO do not offer an up front release.

I also recommend asking other agents who they use and brag about.

I would like to find out more information about IMO's/FMO's and how they work. I currently am a captive agent and I feel I am doing ok but could be doing a lot better.

I currently sell med supp, life and annuities. I feel like the company I am working with is holding me back. This is because a lot of the marketing ideas I have get axed as my branch manager will not let me empliment because they are not approved by home office. Not only that but I am getting hammered by people about our companies rating and I feel the comission is wack but this is my first insurance sales job so I am not to sure.

Not only that I feel all do is recruit which is killing my personal production and not to mention there is no standard for which he recruits. It is honeslty amazing how many people come in and are gone within one week.

Hey markingriffin if you could PM or email so that you might be able to provide some insight I would greatly appreciate your time and insight.

Thanks a lot.

Sounds like Bankers Life...My branch was like that 10 years ago....3 managers required to Appoint 36 people a year....funny it was all about appointing people with the carrier nothing about keeping 5 people for a year so all the managers did was recruit and then turned training over to people that had been with the company a couple months....a wacked system for sure.

As Mark said before, upfront releases are very important! Make sure you find an IMO that is willing to do that as part of their norm.

You will want to do some shopping. Mark is a good one to start with. I like Mark, am a little biased as I am also one of the few on the board that offers good contracts. So you can call me too. InsuranceExec would be another you can call.

I have to give props to Todd. He has been very upfront with me and helpful.
Mark has been very helpful too. These guys can save you alot of research time if you are thinking of going independent. Good prices, good commission, and quick issue products. What more could you want?
