Who else Got an Ipad for Christmas and How Will You Use It?

My very expensive wife got me an iPad for my birthday a few weeks ago.

It has totally changed my reading habits. I really enjoy reading the iPad as opposed to tiny print in magazines and newspapers. I'm reading a lot more... especially books. For years and years I've wanted to re-read Sidhartha (Herman Hesse) but never got to the library to find the book or buy it from Amazon. But it is FREE on the iPad from the Gutenberg Project.

I find it great for consuming data, not so great for creating data. But I'm getting used to the keyboard for email. I'll never be as fast on it as I am with my Apple bluetooth keyboard. (Yeah, there is some way to "pair" an iPad with a bluetooth but I've not tried it.

The other night I was watching a pro football game in the bedroom on 45 inch Samsung TV while also watching an episode of Gray's Anatomy on the iPad that I had missed. They have a zillion minutes of commercials on pro night games (the one with Al Michaels and Chris Collingsworth) so I would be starting and stopping my iPad watching Gray's during the football ads.

I also like the "Dragon" app where I can dictate my email into the iPad.

The Flipboard app is terrific for finding interesting business and investment content. I also like the NY Times app.

I use both iBook and Stanza for reading books and PDFs... neither are all that good... but I undersand there is a better reader out there for a few bucks... not sure what it is.

I also find it a bit easier to show PDF illustrations or PDF slide shows to clients when I'm face to face at their office or at their kitchen table.

I really LIKE my iPad. I can't say I NEED it, but for me it is a useful piece of technology.

YMMV
