Who else is Getting Screwed by Lead Companies?

I do not buy leads from a lead company. Too many distribution channels and upset customers. What I have done is set up a website tailored to exactly my flavor of the month, spend the money on google ad words and yahoo, and get my own leads. Yes, you will have to spend more at first, however, the roi will be well worth it. I spend about $500 a month, get approx 75 leads, close 30 to 35. I can spend $500 with a lead company and get 1000 leads and close 1. Just a thought.

If you are really getting that many clicks that result in form completion from $500, you should publish a paper. I'd pay for it if you could prove the numbers. That's less than $7 per lead. It's almost unheard of.

Like M&M, I look at ROI. I basically only use i-leads for my business. I spend about $600-$700 per week on leads and have more than an 8:1 ROI. The trick is to use multiple sources and shut off the leads from those companies when the quality starts to suffer.

You can't really tell if a lead co is good after $200, but you can after $500-$600. Remember, this is a business. If you don't have the capital to invest in your biz to figure out good marketing streams, maybe you shouldn't do the i-lead route and try telemarketing or walk/talk.

Well, let's see. I've been listening to your conference call now for 44 minutes and I'm still waiting for you to get to the point!

You must have missed it, it was right at the beginning

Nice try. Nope, I listened to the whole thing.

It was interesting, I do wish others on the forum were able to hear what you had to say in regard to how people can get screwed. I think it would be great if you would allow a call replay (I haven't seen anything about that yet). I dont' think a lot of people truly understand why when they call a "lead", that the lead has already been contacted by 15 agents.

As an example, someone used my office number in requesting whatever kind of quote (well, let's assume it was for something other than a free laptop!), and then what started as life, turned into health, then auto insurance. It was really weird.

So I guess I'm asking whether you can allow people to hear the webinar, and then, really, what kind of leads are you actually generating? Health? Life? Auto? What?

Thanks.

I don't sell leads - I try and share stuff that has worked well for us in our insurance business (and stuff, we've tried that hasn't worked as well as we would have liked) to generate our own leads. In my opinion, an agent that generates his/her own leads in their local market and gets good at it, is much better off than someone who just buys leads.

There's no better feeling than coming in and having stacks of leads on your desk that you've generated yourself. Well, I guess actually writing the business is a better feeling.

We do the live show every Wednesday at 1:00 EST at Mavericks Live , you can go there and get on the list to get reminded of when the show goes live each week if you want.

As far as the webinar from yesterday goes, I don't have the recording up on the web yet, but will try to get it up sometime next week.

Best,

It makes me sick to see how many agents are getting screwed by lead companies. Especially companies that generate leads on the internet. These leads are getting sold to multiple different agents. Has anyone found a company that generates leads and distributes them ethically? Preferably one that doesn't generate internet leads?

There are many sources that will provide leads. You are correct, many are sold many times over. There are two ways to approach this. The first, is to buy proprietary leads. They will cost 3 to 4 times as much but you will be the only one receiving the lead. The other option is to buy older leads that are 30+ days old. Typically the leads that are sold are for health insurance. If you purchase leads that are 30+ days old, you can buy these for as low as $0.50 to $2-$3 dollars each. When you call the prospect, many will say, "I already bought insurance, why are you calling me" and etc. Don't worry about this. Keep in mind, these were health leads... now you know they have health insurance. You now can sell them life, dental, loss of employment, disability or other coverage. This approach allows you to buy leads cheap and use them to sell other products too. Good luck!
