If you were coming from a sales career in another industry to sell P&C...which company would you recommend?? I realize after reading many posts here that there are many positives and negatives to every company. My goal is to sell P&C and eventually own my own agency either for a company or independent. Any suggestions on which companies are best to start with??

Thanks for all the great info on here.

I'm hoping the KY in KYSALES stands for Kentucky.
We will await an answer and find out.....

I tried to go from L&H to P&C as an indy and found it to be tough to do. Hard to get appointments, hard to get E&O. So my advice to you would be to either find an established indy agent looking for help, looking to hire and train a CSR or producing agent, or maybe State Farm or Allstate. Now, there is a AAA thread or two on this site, they seem to hire and train folks as well in certain states, dunno about your state.
edit: Also here in TX Liberty Mutual seems to be hiring and MetLife P&C.

I agree about hard to get appointments, but i'm going to disagree on getting E&O.

Only thing is the price for E&O. I called my local PIA and they got me E&O within a week, but it was over 3k. I've talked to other people in the field and say after the first year, it will drop a lot, to like 500-600 a year, not sure how true this is though.

At least in CA, it will NEVER drop to $500-600 a year. This is especially true if you need an agency policy. You might get $2000 a year (yeah, someone will say $1800).

$5-600 a year is Life/Health with variable stuff added, definitely not P&C.

Yeah, I did not mean it was tough, I meant it was expensive. and it is around $2000 a year here. They want to know if you have CSR's, have experience, have other offices, write L&H, so on. The application for E&O is like 5 or 6 pages long here in TX.

Ah yes, my E&O here was 8 pages and they wanted resumes, referrals, and exactly what i do, who i work with etc... long process but youll get it though.

so back to the original question

which companies would be a good place to start a career in p&c??
