Why Do PC Companies Hate Startups ?

No secret.
Sign up with a wholesaler like Superior Access (or Insurance Noodle, or any of the many others) and submit those apps.

Build a book, get direct appointments.

Easily said. Good luck! Doing is always much harder than saying :)

Am I able to remain competitive using guys like these?

Rates are the same, so maybe. If their carriers are competitive in your market, then yes.

Can you make a living? Different story. You give up part of your commission and it takes longer to process the policy. Not really a big deal, but it adds up.

As long as I am close to where I need to be. fortunately, I am going to be working closely with pool of clients that we've won over already, so as long as we are relatively competitive we are in good. the timing is going to be an issue, as I am going to be doing business in NYC so the clientele is expecting it yesterday, but I presume that once we establish a working relationship with a wholesaler or MGA and they are aware of our capability we can get those wheels greased. It's all a matter of volume and from my experience, when you are doing the volume they are willing to work with you to get you what you need.

I got one apppointment and sold mostly that career. Over time, when I showed my growth to other carriers, I got more appointments. Otherwise, consider finding another agent with which to work.

Where are you located?
