Why Do People Lie??

As a life agent with 17yrs experience I still get "PIZZED" when people flat out lie to me on an application!!
I wrote an apps on a husband and wife 2 weeks ago, the wife is very over weight ( I took that into account) she said she weighs 260. Fits into my guidlelines for a rating. Only on 1 medication for cholesterol. Ok, took that into account. I always ask if there are any more health issues after asking the app questions. She says no and is very nice. Ok
Underwriting calls me today.......DECLINED! She has a list of health issues as long as his arm and she weighed 365 at time of paramed exam.
Can't wait to see how the husband turns out.
Doesn't happen much anymore because I know how to ask but it still happens on occasion.
Sorry I'm just venting....
Have a great weekend.

I feel your pain, happens to me too.

You could also tell them that its better to disclose everything as they will find everything anyway. I know this might imply the wrong thing to some people, it might fish out a few that think they can slip something by.

With the weight thing you can usually eyeball and tell a significant difference of 100lbs. This only works face to face of course.

There are probably a few reasons why they lie.

1. They want to try and "slip past" underwriting.
2. Denial

You know you're in trouble when you ask how much they weigh and they (usually she) says "I haven't weighed myself in sooooo long." I ask if she has a scale, if she says no, I ask if she has a friend who has a scale. I tell her to go weigh herself then call me back. I've learned not to write apps on delusional people.

If you were writing final expense I don't knoiw whay it was an issue. If you had written with RNA, Monumental, Foresters, AmCon or even LH there wouldn't have been an issue with build.

A woman 'trimming' a FEW pounds is one thing... but 100:laugh:

Maybe she didn't want her husband to know, how much he was LIFTING:err:

You should have known something was up when the family dog cried from laughter, when she answered the weight question.:goofy:

You missed it when the 'couch' whispered "Dude, that's a HUUUGE beetch"....on your way out of the door.:twitchy:

Yeah, actually I should have put this in the Life Insurance catagory, not Final Expense.
This was a face to face interview. Policy was a Term $125,000 just to cover the remainder of the house remodeling loan.
With her weight issue, she also had sleep apnea, heart embolism, heart stent and some kidney problems. And there was more. Far cry from just cholesterol.
Looking back, I don't see that I would have done anything different. BUT, I should have known it would not go well because these people called me, I didn't prospect for them.
They got my name from a "friend". Usually the ones that call and really, really want some life ins now are the worst.
Oh well.......

Yeah, when they are really "nice", thats usually a red flag for me.

I wonder if we should bring scales with us? (just a thought)

But 100lbs. off? lol, reminds me of the movie "Shallow Hal"?
