Why Do They Travel?

I used to travel 2-4 hour from home 3 days a week. Like others I do not want to bump into clients and I kinda enjoyed getting out of the house.

Another is I was following the money. Maybe just perception but I seem to be get much higher premiums in the Bay Area and SoCal.

Going forward I plan to work areas where the Whip and I can go play. Spend a couple days working and playing in the central coast wine country or San Diego.

That's what's great about FE, and probably to an extent selling any kind of life insurance.

You can literally go anywhere, set up shop, and do business.

I'd like one day to be able to travel to a vacation destination for an extended multi-month stay, and sell a couple days a week.

I think that would be pretty neat.

Wow! That is a great idea and very doable. I spent a week once in a condo resort doing telemarketing for the business I worked for. It was the owner's condo and we had local phone rates. This was in the days when long distance rates were fairly substantial.

From time to time I here of agents driving or even

Flying to other states to run leads and staying over in motels. Is there something to that other than spending a fortune on travel expenses?

alot of several agents will travel and work area's away from their home base...You have to look at your ROI...The only idiots flying around the country are those knuckleheads at UUI, who tell new agents to pack up their suitcase, fly 2000 miles, and work an area for 2 days....Then they go on youtube saying they made $20,000 over the weekend, when in reality they probably didn't sell a single policy

I have flown to AZ for a conversion. A few hundred dollars an two days for just shy of $7,000.00. I have spent more and made less locally.

I think the reasoning is that when your close to home your more likely to run errands or even go home between appointments, thus being less productive during the day. In the same vein, when your close to home the wife will call and ask you pick up stuff lol.

When I started, I ran a debit in a town 12 miles from my home.. I was probably much more productive because of that. My wife would not ask me to do errands, pick up the kids, etc. because it would involve a 25 mile round trip (or more depending on the part of the town I was in.). I didn't go home for lunch and often would gain a prospect when eating out.. Was the days before cell phones so my family couldn't call with the latest crisis or chore that needed done. When I started an agency, I opened an office same town where I ran a debit. Later, we moved to the town where the office was and my activity dropped.. I was always finding some reason to run by the house.

I like driving an hour and a half to 2 hours away and working all day Wed, get a hotel room and then work all day Thursday and then I am done until the next week. I find I put in a very full Wed and depending on how I do I sometimes cut off early on Thursday.

I usually spend 2 to 3 hours making calls on Monday and Tuesday. Sometimes I will do some paperwork on Friday but not very often.

For some agents, like myself, travel is a necessity. No way I am going to make it in this biz working in the BFE area where I live. I like small town living, but kinda wish I lived closer to a major metro area for FE sales.
