Working During the Holidays

All my dumb little buddies are still into health and CI. They knock off this time of year because they have the impression that there's no money to be made past the week of Thanksgiving and up until now I've bought into this as well. I'm a door knocker so not concerned about rate of return on mailers but what is your experience selling during the holidays? or do you pack it in and start once more in January?

I did not get leads today for next week by choice. I amy run a few appointments from old leads on Mon and Tues but I may not.

I will do the week between Christmas and New Year as far as not getting leads and I will not run appointments then. Again, by choice.

The rest of the time is business as usual. I usually do between $12,000 and $15,000 ap each month of Nov and Dec.

There wass time when I worked both months just as any other month and the only time I didn't do business was on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day the couple of days before and after Christmas.

I know agents that still work like that and do quite a bit of business. I also know agents that say there is no business to be had from late Nov thru New Years and guess what? They don't write much business then.

I'm all in for selling during the holidays for several reasons.

1. Make a sale? People talk about what they bought when they're with their friends. Its great for referrals.

2. During holidays and time off people see friends and family, catch up, and also hear the bad things that have happened too. Its a great time for mailers to arrive, or to door-knock for final expense.

3. People who are hard to catch by phone or drop-ins because they're working will be home and available.

4. There are a lot of people who really aren't interrupted by calls or drop-ins because they don't have that many friends/family. But even if they do, its not like everyone's at their home 100% of the holidays. So there's lots of open time to see people.

For this upcoming week I'm calling Sunday afternoon to setup appointments for Monday through Wednesday, setting my drop-by route for those I can't reach by phone, and I'm willing to set appointments on Thursday during the day through Saturday.

I haven't done much between thanksgiving and christmas. I find this time of year it is hard getting people to commit to a scheduled appointment. Because I have to drive so far to get to the area's I work in, unless I have at least 2 or 3 good appointments I usually stay home. Maybe a better approach would be to just bite the bullet and expect to do more cold calling this time of year.
