Any advice on how to be successful working in the inner city?
I know many don't market there but some do well. Looking for feed back from those who are actually successful working that market.

Referrals tend to be better, depending on how "inner city" it is, some won't have bank accounts.

Carry a .45. There's a new 5/8" thick conceal and carry .45 out there that would do nicely.

Don't dress up. Don't drive nice car. I got an old pickup and wore jeans.

He didn't say he was working the East Tennessee "hollars" where you are apt to walk up on someone's still, weed patch or meth lab at anytime. ;)

Depends where the "inner city" is. Big difference between the south side inner city in Chicago and the inner city in Cincinnati Ohio. In my much younger days I collected and repossessed appliances in Chicago and that was some scary shlt. Not so much in Cincinnati. ha

Nowadays I go on appointments in the "inner" city of Cincinnati but would not in Chicago. The families you call on are not going to be the problem, it's their neighbors. Just be smart. Don't ask the gang standing on the corner for directions. Start out by going in the mornings. Bad people like to sleep late. You will get to know the blocks to avoid.

No neighborhood is as good as it looks (richie rich is useless to me) and no neightborhood is a bad as it looks... Drive a "field" car. My six year old ford fusion is just about as new as I would recommend. I worked with a guy who drove a junky pick up. Did so well that he bought a Lincoln. Sold nothing after that...I dress down but semi-official,dress shirt w/rolled up sleeves, in other words working schlub, clipboard and name tag. Keep your wits about you. There are places I skip and I've sat on a lot of pissy sofas to know...

Don't judge a book by its cover. I found myself sitting on a pissy sofa about six months ago and the guy had almost $300,000 in CDs. I had to pass for an annuity because he has dementia.

He wasn't concerned about life insurance. Grumpy old fart! :swoon:

Oh, I'm not knocking it...For me it's normal!

Even that aside, you write enough $25-$45/month FE policies which they really need and it starts to add up.
