I agree, I even have my data on three different computers. But, that isn't going to do me much good if a fire destroys all three, it is also going to destroy my external drive. The fire proof safe and off site storage are the only things that enable me to "sleep well at night".

I may worry too much about my data and go to extremes. However, because I am totally paperless, it would be impossible for me to recreate fourteen years of clients and prospects.

I hear from agents on a regular basis who have never backed up their data. That ain't right.

I use externals also and love them....but can they be totally trusted not to fail in the future.....

The CD's have a definite shelf life. I use online backup & access as well as external, portable drives. Toying with using something like Log Me In for remote access.

You can burn it to disc, and if your house burns down you're screwed. I load everything online. That way just in case of some massive tradegy like a house fire I don't lose anything.
