12 Yr Old Needs Health Insurance

Dad is on medicare.. Mom is on Kaiser MRMIP and pays 704 and premium will increase to 1269 if 12 yr old child is added. Any ideas? they can't afford this and they adopted the child about 2 years ago. Mom will be medicare eligible within the year and I know that kids can get their own plans eff 2011 with Kaiser. Any less costly options? thanks.

What state are you in, for some reason I think your in CA:

Costs - The California Healthy Families Program

If not , you could try the states CHIP program, doritos are good.

STM is probably the only plan available at least in FL.

Mark, you have an STM carrier that will write child only in FL? There aren't any in GA that I am aware of.
