5 Star Final Expense

FYI
Keeping client information protected under HIPPA unsecured on your home computer is a dangerous thing to do. If your computer was ever hacked , stolen, etc, you would be in serious trouble and a huge liability issue.

So what is the lead-pipe-cinch all secure place to store records, per HIPPA compliance...? I suppose the paper records in that big ole filing cabinet could be hi-jacked and stolen, which of course presents a far greater security risk imo.

So what do you do? Shred the hard copy and delete your PDF's and just let the copy be stored and protected at the carrier's risk?

I guess there is no real reason why you would need to have a copy of your clients app. Just create a spreadsheet you can log pertinent info in if you need it later for annual reviews and such (phone number, AP, age, etc.)

I want that copy of the app you never know when someone will question something they signed to on the app. I don't want to be held captive to getting the info from the carrier or the clients policy.

Ditto! How many of us wrote XYZ company and now have no access to them. I write many of my clients multiple times. I like being able to review the old informations. Or maybe the old permanent illustration the turned down in favor of a term policy. CYA.

If you keep the records on the PC at home you could be hacked OR someone could break in and steal the PC. If you just keep them in the big ole file cabinet they could only get them by breaking in and carrying them all out. Less then half the risk. LOL

I do everything prety much old school. I have a file folder for every person or family I've ever written. I have 4 file cabinets in the office and I have 3 more in the attic.

Last fall I got up there in the atic and mined my old files. Found a considerable amount of gold there.

Nowadays, we just hope the CRM database gets backed up properly and then we got an instant clicking gold mine.

I still have files on my old clients up in MI that I need to transfer over, problem is I let my license in MI go. Probably worth adding the license at some point.
