A Day in the Life of a FE Pusher

That is nothing like carrying weapon. My insurance can't accidentally go off and kill someone. My insurance is not a threat to anyone but me.

The only time I carry is when I'm in the woods and my 9mm will never "accidentally" go off because I don't put a round in the chamber. Once again, you're wrong.

JD I have never carried on my person but I might if I were working the right neighborhood. However, at times on trips I will carry either in my car or in my brief case just in case I should ever encounter a situation that required it.

Here is a situation where I will carry in the future. In the summer of 2005 my family hiked to Benton Falls on Chilhowee Mountain in the Cherokee National Forest. We had several small children along. The following spring (April, 2006) a black bear attacked a family killing a little boy and severely injuring the mother and daughter at that exact spot. I guarantee you the next time I am hiking like that I will carry my pistol in the pocket of my shorts or on my waist under my shirt. My little .40 might or might not kill a bear but would stand a good chance of frightening one off and is better protection than bare hands.

Not sure the .40 is the right load for a bear. Better than nothing but remember a bear is a hairy, unbelievably tough creature.

In fact I am not crazy about any auto loader for bear country due to the fact that you are limited to hollow points or ball ammo and autos, and their owners tend to malfunction under stress. I prefer a big revolver. .357 mag is a good choice but given my druthers, I carry a .41 magnum in bear country. Wad cutter loads. Better idea would be to carry a twelve gauge pump loaded with slugs.

Best idea of all is to give bears a wide berth.

Sometimes that can be hard...I came out of my house last summer to find one standing behind my car. He stood up on his back legs and just stared at me as if to say "you want some of this?"

I was late for my appointment that day.

Yeah, I'm wrong because you gun nuts want to parade around with a firearm hanging on yhour side.

So I'll keep being wrong and you keep up the standards of the wild west. Maybe we can even bring back duels?

I seem to recall that it is illegal to carry in a National Park. That may apply to a National Forest as well. If there isn't a hunting season, then all firearms are probably prohibited.

The Park Rangers in the Smokys don't play around either. They'll haul your butt up to Knoxville over a speeding ticket.

Oh Lord, I'm dealing with a liberal here. :-)

You say that like it's a bad thing? I am a proud "yellow dog" democrat. I am a JFK, Harry S Truman liberal. Not the liberal of today. That probably makes me more conservative than the pretenders on the right today as well.

You know, the ones that get their talking points from Faux News and Rush Dumbaugh.

Just making a joke JD ... I don't watch Fox or Rush. (or much TV at all for that matter) I just believe its my God given privilege to make my own decisions.

Case in point: watching what we say on the forum because we might "offend" somebody.
