JD I have never carried on my person but I might if I were working the right neighborhood. However, at times on trips I will carry either in my car or in my brief case just in case I should ever encounter a situation that required it.
Here is a situation where I will carry in the future. In the summer of 2005 my family hiked to Benton Falls on Chilhowee Mountain in the Cherokee National Forest. We had several small children along. The following spring (April, 2006) a black bear attacked a family killing a little boy and severely injuring the mother and daughter at that exact spot. I guarantee you the next time I am hiking like that I will carry my pistol in the pocket of my shorts or on my waist under my shirt. My little .40 might or might not kill a bear but would stand a good chance of frightening one off and is better protection than bare hands.
I don't know what the rule is elsewhere but is illegal to carry open or concealed in a state park in Indiana.

I can't remember seeing anyone Open Carry a firearm unless they were in transit as a hunter with a long rifle or shotgun. I'm sure it happens but just don't remember seeing it, and I live out in the sticks where rednecks abound. They are as proud of their firearms as their wife and kids. Concealed carry is another thing; most of em are packing here, legal or otherwise.
That quote was from http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/indiana.pdf
People are carrying open more and more. The argument for is that a bg (bad guy) will change his ill intentions if he sees someone carrying open.
The argument against is that a bg will shoot the guy open carrying first. Logically, it makes sense, but there is actually very little data to support that fact. Most criminals are cowards.
Personally, I don't think I'd ever open carry. But we'll see. Obviously open carrying (or concealed for that matter) in a prospect's/client's home is a no go.
