Activity to Produce 20 Homeowners Per Month

Activity level???? Hmmm, sounds like sales manager double speak to me!!!!! I guess this is why I'd never make a good sales manager!!!

Activity level doesn't pay the bills, doesn't provide focus, doesn't give a clear, obvious goal. Telling someone that they need so much GWP a month, now that is something everyone can understand!!!!!

It's okay to start with this for the first few months, but it needs to transition to something that actually pays bills!!!!

Activity level is very important for new people. Telling someone brand new to insurance that they have to write 30k in premium this month is meaningless. Either it will scare them or they will think it is child play or somewhere in between. They have no idea how difficult that is and can't break it down into doable steps.

Even talking dials is a bit meaningless at first. But after a day or two, you should start to realize how many dials you can do in an hour or a day and it gains some meaning.

The hard part is helping someone transition from thinking pure activity into fruitful activity or even just focusing on results.

I do agree, if you are bringing on someone new to the business, activity is important. Problem is, nobody walking in the door with the ink on their license still wet will be able to write 20 homeowners policies a month. You will need a semi-experienced sales person to do this.

So, if your goal is to write 20 a month, hire someone who can do it, which means someone with experience, which means activity metrics are less impactful.

If your goal is to grow someone to write 20 a month, then yes, by all means, activity is important.

Problem is, if they can do it, why do they need you?

Some people like to by houses that need work so they can get a better deal if they fix them up. If you get an agent that can't quite do well on their own you can get a better deal and "fix them up" to be a good producer (in theory).
 
Age old question, why would anyone want to be a producer rather than the agent.

In Life/Health, I always wonder that myself, unless there is a regular paycheck involved.

In P&C, it takes a lot to run an agency, something a lot of agents don't want to do anymore. Of course, there are probably more agents looking to hire producers so they don't have to sell anymore :)

I think the simple answer is that producers usually need the training and support. Once established they can branch off to being an agent.
 
there's a regional outfit that gives 10%/3% (with no bills) and has many career agents. I could do this and help with marketing too.
im not worried about making a ton on the front end. i want the renewals and ownership of the biz.
thanks for the input everybody. 10 quotes a day or 250 cold calls a day is a good goal and should produce the right results. if he doesn't do 20 ho's and instead does 15 and 5 his pay check would still be ok. if he does get 20 ho's, he can take the rest of the month off. :1cute:
i'm can usually quote 10 and sale 2. no captives are competitive in my county for some reason.

i want to teach someone to do this because the iron is hot for commercial too. i think i should write this myself because of the e and o exposure.
