Advertising Insurance On Craigslist

when it comes to craigslist, it's all about how you set up your ad and where on CL you place your ad.

I ran 2 craigslist campaigns. the first try got about the same results as people here.... more spam than customers.

on the 2nd try, I hid my phone # and email address from the ad and simply had a link pointing to a quote form landing page. I also placed my ads in more specific locations, auto, motorcycle and boat insurance went into the automotive, cycle, and marine services respectively (before, I was placing them where general insurance ads would go).... bingo!

those 2 changes made all the difference. the results aren't great, but I do get about 1 sale per week from CL. not bad for free advertising that only takes 10 min per day to keep the ads fresh.

I don't know if this ties in or not but I've been selling several cars lately. The used cars that have been in the higher price range ($21,000 and $28,000) got no calls off Craigs List but sold well on eBay.

When I listed a car for $7,000 I got a million calls from Craigs List and sold it in 1 day.

It seems like Craigs List is attracting lower end buyers at least in my limited experience.

I've purchased cars off of craigslist, but not expensive ones. If I go to spend more than $10k on a car I wouldn't want to buy it from some goofball on the internet I don't know.

Where would you buy it? Some goofball in the newspaper classifieds you don't know?

Depends on what it is, but most likely a dealer, but perhaps I should clarify. About a year ago I was looking for a Chevelle and Craigslist seemed like the most appropriate place to look for it, but on newer cars in that price range I would definitely go to a dealer.

Made 12 accounts and posted in a few sections. Worked, got a few sales. Did this about a year ago. I had stopped since yes the spam is ridiculous. 2 people that contacted me were completely uninsurable, one asked me for a payday loan haha.

Overall yea it seems to work alright. Post it for the entire city, make sure that you ad does NOT give a phone number. That's where the true spam start coming in. I posted in mostly the job section.

The thing that sucks is every 24hours you need to redo your ad since they'll be like 400 posts in front of it. There are auto Craigslist posters. That will create a email, sign up, verify and begin posting. They run about $250. Not a month, just one time. I tried the free version, was a pain to set up but it did work. Got 5 ads posted in the amount of time it takes to post 1.

I did a 60 day trial with a separate email and tracking program... I wrote one carpet cleaner with 2 vans. Not a great use of my time and energy.

It works for non standard auto insurance. I have a friend with a non standard auto agency that sells to hispanics and it works very well.

Re: Craigslist

I've tried hiring an assistant on there, with the amount of folks looking for jobs, I got some good resumes and such.

ebay has a classifieds section as well. I've had some luck finding people there. Not sure if it would be any good selling product but it is an alternative and may not be as spammy.

One of the problems for Life and Health agents is where to post the ad. It has to be in the services section and there's no insurance services. Financial is the closest, which would be fine for annuities and almost works for life but is way off for health.

Insurance is a financial product, no matter what kind. It is to provide economic replacement.
The financial section would be exactly were it is supposed to go.

Even Health Insurance is a financial product; it hedges your finances against a major medical issue.
