I read the bill as everyone must take you without rate up based on health OR smoking status. So even worse than Maine model.

I can't wait until this passes so I can go back on my pack of cigarette and 2 whopper a day diet.

You laugh but as written this is nothing short of a windfall for everyone who abuses their body. It's the financial equivalent of telling people that no matter how many checks they write it's impossible for their account to go negative.

Even under the new legislation smokers especially should pay twice the rate.

Without bringing responsiblity into the mix, like auto insurance, it'll implode or we'll go the way of Canada and the UK with severe rationing. Seems no one wants to make the tough decisions that need to be made.

Can we really fault Obama? If any president actually did what was right and made the hard calls it would be four and out.

I believe the 200% spread was referring to age and or area.

You can not charge more for health problems, even self inflicted. Male and female rates must be identical so males must subsidize females.

Come on Winter charging more would be discrimination under Obamas definition.

What about charging more for those DUI's. Alcoholism is an illness and society has failed to provide treatment so you are blaming the victim. That family of five that was just wiped out in the head on collision is just a symptom of what it looks like when a capitalist society withholds treatment. The guy with the DUI should actually have lower rates as partial compensation for all those years where society has failed to provide treatment.

You're right Winter. But take it farther to make it a liberal concept. That DUI driver gets his policy canceled and now can't drive to work, so he loses his job then home. In fact, if auto carriers canceled people for bad behavior the entire economy would spin out of control.

OR.....since you know you'll be canceled if you get a DWI or rack up too many tickets it forces people to be responsible drivers? Just a concept.
