Agency That Specializes in Truckers

a very large portion of our book is truckers... specifically local... sand and gravel and building materials but we do have a decent amount of long haul guys as well. I would say currently go to Burns and Wilcox until you can get access to the right carriers. If Wesco(AmTrust) is in your state... Id start there. Also Victoria, Progressive, Unitrin, Great West, Century National all do truckers though right now I do not recoment the later 2 that were mentioned as they are taking rate increases and AM Best rating decreases for their past practices... if you can find truckers with them you may be able to get your start by saving them money and getting them with a higher rated company.

It is a very specialize field. The insurance company does the filing. Insurance companies, must give 30 days before cancelling for non-payment. Which i am sure you will be chasing clients to pay, and their will be alot of people showing up at your office at the last minute to safe their policy. premiums are high, full coverage plus a cargo policy, i am guessing 12-15000, per truck.

A lot of companies will not write over the road trucking, some E&O policys won't cover over the road trucking.

I am seeing long haul rates at $4000-5500 per power unit and short haul between $2500-3500 depending on the specifics. In CA, workers' comp leads the account as the SCIF base rate is about 25 per 100. There are carriers that will get down to the low teens for large/clean accounts but there is still great money in WC for truckers. If you get the comp you can usually BOR the package.

I used to haul auto's so my cargo was high, 200,000 cargo policy, now that has would have to be, at least 250,000 I was one of the last carriers to haul the Delorean's at of his nj yard. I remember seeing utility trucks with men in suilts on . At the end of each month, i would get a call, get 30 cars out by midnight. they had a check waiting for me when i picked them up.. sweet. They were in bankrupcy, so they had to pay as they went. The auto's went to his brothers cadillac dealership in cleveland ohio.

Trucking..Local and Long-Haul is all we write at our agency in Six States. Been in this niche for that last 15 years. Alot to learn when you first get in the business..but it can be a fun industry! If you have any questions--let me know..

Truck insurance is 90% of what we write. If anyone has questions about truck insurance, I'd be happy to help you out.

I was picking up a trailer full of Caterpillar machine parts, in Peoria, taking it to Jacksonville. It seems like my airbags didn't deploy propery and the kingpin ended up damaging my 5th wheel. Who's liable- the owner of the trailer or my trucking company?

tins, I think it would be hard to damage the 5th wheel. but if you did, you are responsible. If you were not careful, when hooking up the trailer. You could have the trailer ended up in your sleeper.

Had something close happen once. I was sleeping in a truck stop in Indianapolis and a truck tried to go in 'blind side' to the spot next to me, at 4 am. ended up taking off half my passenger side door (Peterbilts are all fiberglass). I drove back from Indy to Peoria missing half a door, in the middle of winter.
I don't miss those days...
