Another MA article.

Gosh, If my good medicare friend got cancer, he would have had the choice of Mayo clinic in AZ. Your friend didn't.

It's not always about the $$$, which seems to be the focus of mapd sales.

I got really sick 15 yrs ago the Mayo Clinic was baffled and found nothing . I went threw tests, had teams of drs collaborating. Another independent dr found the issue .

Memorial Sloan-Kettering (#2 in cancer hospitals)
Johns Hopkins (#9)
Dana-Farber Brigham (#5)

Mayo (#3 in cancer hospitals)

City of Hope at #8 is in-network with a number of Advantage plans in the Phoenix area.

I couldn't care less about these childish spats y'all seem to enjoy (plus, I have much more enjoyable ways to waste my time), but that one jumped out at me due to client experiences I've been part of.

Carry on, you Don Quixotes.

Out of all the threads we spat in you picked this one to discombobulate on?

MA marketing is a perfect storm where numerous parts are in motion at the same time.

Way too much taxpayer money is thrown around like chum.

Almost everyone comes to feed on the dollars and "free" stuff.

Seniors are confused and often leery, especially when almost ever ad viewed, or seminar attended, contains a sales pitch for more free stuff than the other guys are offering.

70% of T65 have never bought health insurance . . . it was always provided by their employer and choices were usually limited to 3 or fewer plans

Even though most EGH plans require premium participation the individual is still working and collecting a paycheck.

Retirement, for most, is viewed as a cliff where cash flow is typically less than their current take home and they are looking for ways to cut expenses . . . a "free lunch" is very attractive

A common pitch is "This is just like your current plan" even though reality doesn't match the presentation

MA networks are almost always small
vs EGH and providers they used under EGH sometimes do not participate in MA networks and plans

Those who have enjoyed good health so far view free as "fair" and considering the post-retirement lower cash flow, the no premium plan seems like a good option, especially if changing plans is perceived as risk free

OTOH those who have chronic conditions that require lifetime treatment, or had a serious medical issue, are well aware of how difficult it can be to find a competent provider and care that is affordable.

The constant barrage of sales pitches for free stuff often makes them wonder "Where's the catch?".

OM is rarely mentioned, or explained, which is a good thing for me because I have a captive audience eager to learn how it works without networks, referrals, prior authorization and claim denials
I am thankful that I have a plan G supp. 9 hospitalizations in 2 1/2 years. Never had to wait for approval for any test or procedure. Never had a problem seeing any providor I wanted to see. No insurance networks or referrals to contend with. 100% of all bills paid, hospitals, physcians, outpatential facilities,Emergency Rooms, ambulance services, home health care, physical therapy, speech therapy, medical equipment, etc. With the exception of the medicare part b deductible. Premium of $3600 per year is less than my moop would be with a MA plan. Even if it were twice as much it would be worth it for the assurance of hassle free treatment when, where and by whom I desire it.

The second thing I am thankful for is my Manhattan HHC plan. I have been reciving HHC since May 2022 and have been paid $32k+ in benefits.

Hold on Hoss . . .

Because of the complexity involved in how insurance plans are designed, the best way to understand your coverage at a City of Hope hospital or Outpatient Care Center is to contact one of our Oncology Information Specialists.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming a patient at City of Hope, contact us to begin the insurance verification process. After we obtain your insurance policy information, we will conduct a preliminary check to determine how your insurance plan benefits MIGHT work and, if possible, schedule an appointment—all during the same phone call. If we need to investigate further, we will get back to you within 24 hours. Once your benefits have been confirmed, an Oncology Information Specialist will review the details of your insurance plan’s coverage and answer questions you may have.

In other words, it matters not how MANY MA plans are in the area . . . what matters is, will COH ACCEPT your plan . . .

They won't let you past the velvet rope until your insurance is verified and approved.

So many of the MAPD peddlers can't seem to understand this simple concept but I would have thought you would know better.

Capisce, Don?

Is the 200% payment of all bills State specific? I may even think about putting someone on a G plan if it pays double.

Capisce, Don?

I've been through it with 2 different clients with 2 different companies (that I researched prior to putting anything on the table). Both clients were happy with the outcomes. The red highlight above makes me think, Well, no shit.
