Are door hangers DEAD ?

It seems like residential door hangers for IFP would have a lot of waste in it.

Flyers to businesses might make more sense (rifle approach), no?

I drop off flyers in businesses as a habit - anytime I'm out and about. Pick up around 2 extra deals per month from it.

My time? Next to nothing. If I getting gas I'll slap a flyer on the counter. If I shop at a retail plaza I'll put a flyer in every business.

Maybe its just me, but I think that's a crappy return. You could probably make more money knocking on each of those doors and asking for a few dollars. Better yet, ask for $10 from each door you knock on, and come home early.

I had a guy, supposedly a recovering drug addict come by one day to sell me magazines, just like in office space. He talked to me for about 5 minutes and I gave him $15, but didn't buy any magazines. I actually felt bad about not giving him more.

I am pronouncing door hangers dead as a business model.

This is just dumb. No one is stating that door hangers be used as a primary business model, but the numbers work. If you knocked on each door and gave a flyer or begged for money, it would take you far longer to get through 8,000 doors.

For agents with call reluctance or like me with nothing to do in the mornings and 20 lbs to lose, it's a great return. 90% of my daily work is done from 4-9 pm... from 8-10 am this is a productive thing to be doing...

Here are my alternatives:

1. Sleeping an extra 2 hours - $0/0lbs lost
2. Playing Xbox - $0/0lbs lost
3. Posting on the forum - $0/0lbs lost
4. Putting out flyers - $4,000+/20 lbs lost

If you still want to play Xbox and post on the forum have your wife put out the flyers... no sweat equity there...

Maybe Bill will test his begging idea and let us know how it goes and we can compare apples to apples...

This goes nicely to my point about business flyers vs. residential door hangers.

How do the returns compare?

Returns are far higher as a percentage with BtoB flyers. Problem is you can't get many placed.

I can easily put up 200 per hour residential whereas I can only put out around 50 an hour in businesses.

Some agents live in areas that are sparsely populated with businesses so it's not really an option for them.

True:

8am to 9am and 7pm and 8pm. What are you doing? Likely nothing.

Dumb? The fact that you're serious makes it even funnier. If you are trying to make money, I pointed out that going around door to door, like that, is not any more edifying or astute than begging for money, at your age. Why not go the extra mile and ask for it. You losing weight or playing video games has nothing to do with it. You may be more productive and energize a few more brain cells if you sleep a couple of extra hours. Who knows?

You certainly are defensive. I'd like to see you in action running from house to house. Maybe you and the other door hangers could form a team. I don't think that this has a whole lot to do with with legitimate business practice, unless you're selling pizzas or magazines.

I guess it has to do with what's more important to you; appearances, or results...
