Assurant Rate Increases

Time will increase rates considerably, but even more so with the maternity rider. Tell your client to have their babies fast and then drop the rider. It will only get nasty from here.

Beyond that, Obamacare is already wreaking havoc on plans and rates. Look for significant increases on new business & renewal starting this summer and getting bad by years end.

If Obamacare is not modified, 2011 will be the start of some really nasty battles. I am already pulling my hair out over the stupidity of Aetna the last few weeks.

I know how the game goes. Any time a company stops supporting a product, rates for that product go through the roof, even setting aside Obamacare mandates. On the other hand, when 2014 rolls around and all plans require maternity benefits with a $10 co-pay, $386/month will look like a bargain.

Just got one of my client's renewal notices. $5700 OneDeductible PPO with $5k maternity rider. Last year's rate - $283. This year's rate - $386. 36% increase. Where's the media outrage?

Drop the damn maternity for crying out loud. Jeepers.
