BCBS-NC Just Killed SEP Comp

So did they decide to stop paying commissions after you had already written up the business?

It's business moving forward for effective dates of 4/1/16 or later. Now there are no carriers on the exchange in NC that will pay comp for SEP business...time to work on my golf game...or look for another niche.

"turn out the lights...the party's over..."

Even if states like KY make this an issue and try to force the carriers to pay/reinstate commissions all they have to do is push back with their legal beagles and tied this up until next year when it becomes a moot point.

If by some chance commissions are reinstated, look for tactics like UHC did by eliminating e-apps, if an agent wants a quote they have to call HO and wait weeks (or longer) to get the quote, then paper apps only.

If agents and the DOI think they are going to bully the carriers into changing their mind about comp they are missing more than a few cards in their deck.

Some of our blues didn't release group rate sheets at all. You have to quote every group before submission. Even if you already have the info from prior quotes.

As has been shown dozens of times already, NY is often a leader when it comes to new policies. Don't be surprised to see this come to you.

Humana just joined the commission-cut parade, too.

From the email:
Dear Agent,
Humana values our agent relationships and deeply appreciates your continued service to our members. Business considerations at times require us to evaluate our commission structure in order to best meet our members’ needs.

Effective immediately, there are no commissions for any Individual Major Medical Plan with an initial effective date on or after March 2, 2016 unless noted in the chart below. The following Individual Major Medical Plans sold on or after March 2, 2016 will have the following commission structure:
