Best Options for P&C

I am new to the insurance industry specifically Health and Life insurance and I love it. It is perfect for me. Set my schedule when I want to and the harder I work the more money that I make. I recently moved to a small market. From Salt lake City to Saint George, utah. There is business here, but not quite enough for me through internet leads. I contacted some P&C agents to talk about trading leads. And one of them turned me over to the Farmer's recruiter. Right now I love Insphere the Health and Life company that I am with. The recruiter said I would be able to continue to sell health and supplements with Insphere and add property and casualty through Farmers. I am starting to think this would be perfect farmers would put me in an office. (right now I drive to meet with people in their homes.) I would be able to dramatically increase the internet leads I can receive by getting home and auto leads. And I can cross sell every client myself. Here is what I am wondering....

Is Farmers my best option? (they gave me much better rates than all state who I had for 6 years)

I think I might be able to talk my current company into letting me continue as a captive agent with all the benefits included If I went with someone who did P&C only since there would be no life insurance conflict of interest.

A local guy was telling me there is a P&C company that will get you appointed with basically all P&C companies. When you gather info from a client they will go through just about every company out there then send you the 3 best rates. Does anyone know anything about a company like this?

If I could get on with a company like this I think it would be my best option. I love the company I am with and what I can offer health wise to people. I would love to stay with them and keep the perks through them. Then if I had the ability to basically give every potential client the best p&c rates out there because I can use basically any company. I feel I would have a very strong advantage and opportunity in my area.

If anyone can tell me about some companies out there like this, or give me some feedback on other options that may be better I would greatly appreciate it.

Starting out with Farmers may help you get the training you need for P&C products. If they are competitive and you have no problem filling up your pipeline, you should have no problems.

The only problem I can think of is new Farmers agents have a captive contract, which may restrict you on selling other products. Double check this especially if you are selling life insurance.

Yes that is the case. I would no longer be able to sell life with my current company. I would have to pay off an advance account ($11,000.00 which hopefully I can negotiate) with my current company and would lose a lot of things they give me. Stock given, match my contribution for leads and stock. They cap my commission tier at a lower tier than I am at now. It make sense that farmers would be a good way to start to learn the industry though and they do provide a monthly base when you are starting. But if there is any way for me to keep 11,000.00 and all the benefits with my company now I would love to do that.

Wow that didn't take long to see a lot of bad stuff about farmers. One more reason to look at the independent route with one of these companies that seem to be able to write with just about every carrier. Can anyone tell me how to find one of these companies that this local guy was telling me about?

So from searching the forums it seems that what I need is a general agent or agency. From the guy I was talking to if he would be able to write for basically anyone it must be a pretty large general agency. Anyone know about a company that might fit along these lines and be available in Utah? I am not concerned about the best commission rates. Mainly I would like to use this as a tool to get more people in the door and be able to offer them the best product at the best price.
