Linkedin is a "business social media platform" not a personal area. In many instances its a much more appropriate place to post about insurance and risk management.

In addition I think its a far easier place to reach out to people that you really do not know - for business purposes.

I know a fair amount of successfully people that no longer use Facebook because of privacy fears, other reasons, and being sick of people fighting over sandwiches, politics, and guns. All of these folks are still on Linkedin.

I created a blog on wordpress, but I haven't been active on there because of a lack of time to really create the site. I've been thinking about getting back on Facebook and creating a twitter account also.

I hadn't seen this, it might be something for me to consider. I have family in other Countries and last time I created a Facebook page, they added me and then it was a mess to promote my stuff, because I also got caught on commenting on their posts lol And yes, it's impossible not to get caught up on people arguing on different news outlets...

Of all businesses engaging in social marketing, 45% report that it has decreased their lead generation costs and 24% of them say that their revenue has increased

I always wonder about how accurate these "self reported" numbers are. Are the people reporting this going off of memory or hard data? What percentage of business even have any hard data on social media marketing?

Some of this may have to do with age as well.

Contrary to many Senior Market agents here I find a lot of 60 yr old + people on Facebook. I am also in several groups where the average age is much younger 35-50 yrs old.

WordPress is tricky, if you want my advice Wix or Squarespace are easier, more visually attractive blog spots. But honestly, if you're going to start a blog (which you should, especially if you're looking for stranger referrals or even WOM) definitely create a facebook page connected to it.... FB is how you get the clients to actually read the blogs. My wife found this article when I was starting my pages up a few months ago and it was pretty helpful I think there are a few more in the series.
