I have been a long time (4 yrs) blogger at InsureBlog, but my time at Health Insurance 411 is considerably less and inconsistent.

Blogger is used at InsureBlog, while I have opted for WordPress at H411. Since I "own" H411 but share IB, H411 reflects my personality as well as views.

Of course I have no idea what most of this stuff is for. But apparently some of the tracking software tells me how many visitors I am getting and the source.

I have only been actively "working" H411 for a few weeks, and only installed tracking two weeks ago, but here are some things I noticed.

So far in March I have had 277 visitors viewing 1460 pages. And I have had 2160 spiders and 139 feeds. Yesterday there were 322 spiders and 18 feeds.

Is this good or bad and what do I make of any of this?

I don't know much about the web other than using it so take this with a grain of salt. 1)There are a lot of dislocated people who have lost, are losing, or cannot afford health coverage. 2)There are a lot of people who have lost jobs who are looking at insurance sales. My guess would be that increased activity are the results of these folks prowling the web looking for information, direction, and understanding.

Google analytics will advise you where the traffic comes from how long they stayed on etc ... what search terms they used to get their. FREE - get it on there if its not already.

Also, you need to have a subscription option on your blog and incentivze them to join with some type of FREEMIUM offer.

Then you will get a better gauge if your getting spyed on or found by prospects.

Email list building should be a primary objective of your site - to build a relationship with your visitors - when they are ready to use one of your services - you are the ONLY person they will think of.

use online and offline methods ...

HTH,

Steve

The more visitors you have, the better. It means more people are reading your site, which is good.

The more pageviews you have, the better. It means that the people who are visiting your site are looking at more stuff. The metric of user satisfaction to look at here is the ratio of pageviews to site visits.

I love spiders, because it means that the search engines care about my content and that I'll get indexed faster. When I first started posting on Georgia Insurance Options, it took maybe a week for a new post to show up in Google. Now, it takes maybe thirty minutes. Spiders rock.

get the Google XML Sitemap plug in

Thx, I do have that.

Chumps, a Saver plan? I mean, really . . .

How do you know how quickly it is indexed?

OK, I just Googled "blog AIG where did the money go" and came up with my post from 9 hours ago on page 1 of Google, about 2/3 of the way down.

AIG - Where Did the Money Go? | Health Insurance 411

Can't say if this is good or bad.

If you run Firefox, you can install The SEO Toolbar and see under the info tab when Google last indexed any page. Or, if you're like me and run Safari, just copy and paste a unique chunk of your page into Google and see if it picks it up.

Bob, sounds like your blog is doing pretty well. Looks at if your visitors are coming to the site and clicking around and browsing the site. Spiders are cool. Your site is recognized by the search engines and are indexed in them. Yes, a site map will help you rank higher in the search engines. The spiders will have a better idea of what your site is about thanks to installing a site map. In regard to feeds, if you are pinging your blog, your articles are more than likely showing up on sites that you aren't even aware exist. That's a really good thing. Some folks might have your articles on their blog being fed in from sites like Technorati, Feedburner and other blog feeds. Did I make any sense? Haha.
