BlueShield / BlueCross Question

I was wondering how you can get appointed by the Blue. Is there a marketing company preferred, or joining them direct is a better way.

I couldn't find a broker link on blueshield.com site.

Thanks in Advance

There are two "Blues" in California. Anthem Blue Cross is one. Blue Shield of California is the other. They are separate companies out here and are not affiliated with each other in any way (save both being licensees of the BCBS Association). They compete head-to-head statewide. Anthem Blue Cross is for-profit, Blue Shield of California is not-for-profit.

Anthem Blue Cross - 800-678-4466 (Agent Support)

Blue Shield of California - 800-559-5905 (Producer Services)

IMHO I don't think they own them. They license them and allowthem to use the Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield name, trademark, indicia, etc. If I am mistaken I am sure I will be corrected by my fellow forum members.

If you are in California, you go direct with both Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Ca.

Actually, they a have a minimum quota that you have to give them or they'll drop your appointment. Also, they pay you based on the number of policies sold based on an escalating commission percentage level.

I think I would like to go through a broker to avoid the above.

Are you wanting to write under 65, over 65 or both?

I know Health Choice One is a broker that has Blue Cross/Blue Shield in several states and they don't have any production requirements for their commission structure.
