I would say for your situation you can consider something like writing business through friends IA as you establish you own IA. Work out a deal once you have a few carriers to be able to take those clients with you. If the agent doesn't allow it you should reqest that you get a good payout and renewal and have his agency service the account as well.

The first part of your post is what we were talking about. Maybe a split on business I write that will diminish over time up to the place that we agree will be my "buyout" date to take my book with me. Do you know which of the standard carriers will appoint sooner then later. I know some have larger experience and size of book requirement then others.
