BREAKING NEWS: Healthcare Bill Passed

Ah! But if the providers, Pharma, suppliers don't cut their prices, how are the insurance companies, including the public option going to lower rates. The Government is going to negotiate lower rates , right! Like they negotiate contracts, $600 toilet seats, $400 hammers, cost overruns on almost every contract.

Just to interject a fact; Medicare can't go bankrupt - it would come out of general funds.

While Medicare might not be able to go bankrupt, the Medicare Hospital fund can, which was my point. When the Medicare fund goes broke that's a huge financial liability that the already stressed general fund is going to have a difficult time compensating for. Fixing a broken system should be higher on the Presidents agenda then it apparently is; same thing with Social Security. United States federal budget - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Per Yahoo-
"The legislation would require most Americans to carry insurance and provide federal subsidies to those who otherwise could not afford it."

How will they require folks to take out insurance? Will they just automatically take it out of people's checks? What if a spouse is covered under their spouses coverage? Do they have to provide evidence of insurance? How will they determine "those who cannot afford it"? How will they determine "those who do not want to pay for it"?

"Large companies would have to offer coverage to their employees. Both consumers and companies would be slapped with penalties if they defied the government's mandates."

Consumers will be in trouble if they don't keep insurance in place? That would be insane. How can you make health insurance mandatory for consumers?

"Insurance industry practices such as denying coverage because of medical conditions would be banned, and insurers would no longer be able to charge higher premiums on the basis of gender or medical history. The industry would also lose its exemption from federal antitrust restrictions on price fixing and market allocation."

Insurers are in business to make money. How can you require them to insure people that will cost them thousands right off the bat? How can you even think of not charging someone with medical conditions more than a healthy person. OK, person A with Lung Cancer from smoking cigarettes for 30 years and Person B who is healthy can pay the same premiums.

I think Obama needs to do something about the cost of prescription drugs. There are many seniors who can't afford the meds that they need. If this thing goes through...

So, if you cannot afford health insurance, and you have to buy it, how are they going to enforce it?

I know people who complain about health insurance premiums, which are not high, but have no problem with their cable TV on their LCD's, their car payments, and maxed out credit cards for all the "toys" they have.

If everyone is covered, are free clinics going to close?

Key Senators already weighing in; bill will be dead on arrival and the Senate will not vote on the House bill, instead will work on the own version. What does this mean? It means you can tear up the House bill and throw it in the trash. Oh, and pro-choicers are already going nuts.

How they will enforce it is taxing folks who don't have it.

It's unlikely the clinics will close, more likely that you would have to bring your new ID card and they would receive part of their funding from billing the public option.

I guess I'll put my money with al3 on this one. It will pass. When and what is another story.

It will pass. I think those of you using terms like dead on arrival or thinking the senate will "never" pass are a bit out of touch.

It will pass and al3 can tell you all "I told you so".

I have said I don't support the bill on cost and other concerns but I do support reform in many other areas before we are all selling 100k deductible hsa plans.

Current system is a big problem and a threat to your career as well.
