BREAKING NEWS: Healthcare Bill Passed

Lol. Funny.

It's game on over here. Until commissions are at or near zero it's game on and that may never happen.

Monday morning. Back to work!

I agree with TXINSURANCE MA is a joke and most MA clients were mislead and insurance cos made too much of a profit. health care reform will pass Senate with public option and be signed into law. This will create selling opportunities for agents who sell life insurance because clients will be able to afford Health coverage and frees up money to bUY life. In 2008 in Nov. and Dec there were 250000 complaints to Medicare center on MA plans being sold wrong..Not telling client they were opting out of trad. Medicare and not telling client plan was not guaranteed renewable. agents were making 300 to 600 dollars per app. client was getting the shaft and insurance cos were making 14% profit while govt was funding program . So everyone can sit back aND RELAX THIS IS A DONE DEAL......

Can you support that comment with fact or are you just going to rely on Washington and MSM talking points that are without basis?

govt was funding program

The gov't funds nothing since they don't have any money. It is the taxpayer who grants Congress a blank check.

I agree, something will pass, heck, something NEEDS to pass.

I just wish they were more open about what it is they are passing. It's interesting to talk to people and get what they think it means (usually free health insurance / free health care) vs what is in the bill.

I've come to grips on the fact that we are going to have health insurance reform in this country. You should too, as this is the business that we find ourselves in. For those who don't, you'll be asking "would you like fries with that."

Not to be getting technical, but where on God's green earth did you get your numbers? I'll mostly ignore your abuse of the English language, but maybe next time you could try to clean it up a bit?

Where did you get the 250,000 complaints? You do realize that what CMS would call a complaint could be something as simple as someone forgetting what their copay was at the doctors office and calling Medicare because the agent explained to them that this is a part of the Medicare program AND their ID card has Medicare written right on it, right?

Where did you get the 14% profit number? If plans make more than 5% they have to start giving some of the money back, so where are you finding this figure? (usually it's closer to 3%, but I'd like to see this number)

Selling opportunities for agents? Please tell me that you're not talking about the $50/member that Mass pays on it's insurance exchange, you think anyone can make a living on that? Maybe someone on here who's put the time and energy into selling PDP's can help clear that one up.

"afford Health coverage and frees up money to bUY life"? (Seriously, you couldn't even capitalize correctly?) How is this going to be affordable? Take a look at the numbers anyone is throwing out there and the majority of them agree that this will drive premiums up. The survey is mentioned elsewhere on the forum, but here is a link referencing it: WellPoint Studies Show ObamaCare Increases Costs - WSJ.com The new plans would not be affordable. Even if the plans are a couple of bucks cheaper than other options (which they wont be, but we'll for the sake of conversation pretend that they will), the overall cost of this in taxes paid will make it considerably more expensive than it should be. Your tax dollars (and mine and the taxes of everyone else in this great country) would go to subsidizing not only those who are "less fortunate", but those who can't be bothered to take an ounce of responsibility for their own health. Our tax dollars will be funding drinking, smoking, overeating, not exercising, not bathing, not managing avoidable-expensive-unnecessary inpatient hospitalizations, etc. If you really think that taxing everyone for the mistakes others are making with their health is better for everyone and will give people more money for life insurance I think it'd be time well invested if you were to research this further. On top of all of that mess we have the fact that the government will have mandates and regulations and this will be in addition to some of the already quite involved regulations. The new regulations would most likely come from a federal level which will certainly aggravate the states who LOVE having this little turf war.

As my wife will firmly attest, I eat my fair share of red meat and should go to the gym more than once or twice a week, but the notion that American's have a responsibility to subsidize each others mistakes seems not only socialistic, but it should be laughable. Government intervention will only raise premiums. The government may very well use our tax dollars and then show us a "public option" that is subsidized by those taxes and call it "more affordable" but that's like paying $500 (income taxes) to walk into a restaurant that sells you a 12 ounce steak for $4 (health insurance premium) and calling it a $4 steak (health insurance plan).

Anybody see this as an income opportunity in the making for the independent agent?

I do. It's the ultimate "disturbing" for prospective clients. When people are disturbed, they seek answers. The agents job will be to take the client and their concerns and apply a fix.

Insurance premiums will keep rising even with their so called reform until they address other factors related to rising insurance costs like the actual costs of health care, tort reform, doctors and consumers abusing the system, etc.
