Budget Airline travel

As an add on to an earlier thread about enjoying our freedom as Independent agents.

Airfare is on the rise it seems. There are still budget airlines that offer lower rates with no frills and limited carry on luggage.

I am headed to the East Coast for a few weeks. I have some stuff there already (son's home) so just going with the American Airlines 18x14x8 personal bag allowance.

Question -
Anyone know if there are restrictions on what you carry on in cargo pants pockets?

Do you guys use these budget airlines for short vacations?

Any sites or apps that alert you to last minute travel deals?

Yup, I gave away a nice bench made knife because I forgot it was in my pocket.

You know, last month was the first time I travelled with a firearm. I had one of my sons come to the airport with me in case there was a problem. felt odd walking through the airport with a rifle case. Pretty much a non-issue for TSA. Checked baggage,
Under 10#s of ammo, Locks on the case, weapons unloaded. Flying out of DC with a hand gun was even easier. Easy Speasy.

This is a good option if you're staying on the west coast. Reno to Vegas was almost the same price as Southwest.

My son flew to Paris for free when he was in college. The friend he went with was the son of an airline pilot, so he could fly on standby and also take a friend on a "buddy pass".
